Positive: The location and size of the apartment are the best aspects of this property. The views from the balcony really are beautiful and we took great photos of the cruise ships. EVERYTHING you need is within 50 metres - gelato, great brunch spots, bars, local general stores, etc. We had a lovely 20-minute walk from the apartment to Castelo de S. Jorge. The top of Rua do Barao is great for Uber and tuk-tuk pickups - it’s a private street so taxis can’t drop off outside the building door, but the walk is not long at all (1 minute max). There are also tram / bus stops 1 minute away. The lift is an absolute lifesaver, and from what I understand, a rarity in the old buildings of Alfama. During our stay there was construction happening on the adjacent building but the apartment is very well soundproofed so we couldn’t hear any noise with the doors closed. Otherwise, the street is very quiet and we got great rest at night, which we wouldn’t have got in Bairro Alto. While there are some minor issues, I would stay here again. If you’re after a more chilled holiday, this could work for you.

Negative: This apartment is worthy of a 10 rating. However, I’m giving it an 8 as there are some easily resolvable issues, which the property managers could have fixed before we arrived but didn’t. BEDROOM A H&M paper shopping bag and an unused female sanitary product (from a previous booking) were left in the third bedroom with the bunk bed. Not too big of an issue as we put them in the bin. But something I’d expect the cleaner to notice. BATHROOM There is no lock on the door for the main bathroom, and this door gets stuck when you try to open it because it gets caught on something ( perhaps a misaligned screw). There is a board covering some pipes, but there is only one screw attaching it to the wall so the pipes are exposed and it looks untidy. We were a party of four and provided only two rolls of toilet paper for four days. These things could have been fixed before our arrival. KITCHEN The plug in the kitchen sink has a hole in it - this is easily replaceable and I’m not sure why it wasn’t before our visit. Also, the bottom hinge on the cupboard under the sink has no screws and looks like it’s hanging off. There’s no A/C in the apartment but fans are provided.
