The feijoadas (Pork and Bean Stews) Bitoque (Pork steak with a fried Egg on top and chips) and many deserts such as Pao-de-lo (sweet sponge cake) and Tigeladas (egg, flour and sugar pancakes cooked in the oven) and of course Pastal de Natas (sweet egg custard with flaky pastry).
Lisbon airport is just 1 hr 15 min away by road or rail, Nazaré, Sanctuary of Fátima, Monastery of Batalha, Golegã with its annual horse fare, the lake of Castelo de bode, Almourol Castle and the Agroal river beach, just to mention a few, are all in close proximity. Portugal has a reliable, inexpensive rail service which makes all of these locations an ideal day trip experience.
